Two reviews in one means double the fun!

I recently read two very well known pony fanfics, and I've decided to review them both.
The first is the infamous Cupcakes. Let me just start by saying I absolutely hated this one. The synopsis is that Pinkie Pie is actually a crazy serial killer baking most of her victims into cupcakes. The story starts with a brutal execution of Rainbow Dash, and that's pretty much the only part the author put any work into. The rest of the fanfic is just a boring story with lousy writing and no real purpose. This whole thing seems to be made for shock.
This fanfic has completely ruined the beloved pastrey I once enjoyed. Now, I vomit in my mouth each time I see a cupcake, and I don't think I'll eat another one for quite a while.
All in all, Cupcakes not worth your time. Even if it wasn't so poorly written, it's still just a terrible shock fic full of blood and gore.

On the other end of the fanfiction spectrum lies a rare gem. My Little Dashie is not only the best fanfiction I've ever read, but also one of the best works of literature I've ever seen.
Let me start by saying that I don't cry easily. The last thing to make me cry was Mother 3. All the things that everyone thinks are sad (Toy Story 3, Marley and Me, etc) don't even phase me.
When something does come along that actually makes me cry, I'm sort of impressed by it.
My Little Dashie had me bawling. I cried at least twice. It is so beautifully written, and you grow so attached to the characters... It's just phenomenal.
The premise is somewhat laughable. It's about a man who is sorta lost in life. He's pretty depressed because his parents are dead, he's living in a dying city, and he's accomplished absolutely nothing.
That all changes when he finds an abandoned filly Rainbow Dash. He thinks about it, and decides to take care of her. At least for a few days. Days turn into months, and months turn into years. Soon, it blossoms into a father daughter relationship.
If this was written by anyone besides RobCakeran, it would be garbage, but he puts so much attention and care into it that it becomes one of the most fantastic things I've ever read.

It is life changing. I loved every moment of it, and I can't think of anything to complain about.
So anyways, Cupcakes is an abomination, and My Little Dashie is an amazing work of art.

Reviews aside, I'm going to start a let's play channel. I'll link you guys to it when I can.

  1. Hey fellow brony, it's Twilight from ZU.
I totally agree with both reviews. Cupcakes was terrible. It kinda seemed to me like the Human Centipede of fan fictions, mostly because it had that WTF element to it and caught people off guard. No one really expects an MLP fan fiction to feature and extended torture scene.
But it's kinda funny. If I hadn't read Cupcakes, my least favorite fan fiction ever, and brought it up on ZU, I wouldn't have heard about My Little Dashie, which is now my favorite fan fiction ever.
Yeah, I bawled at My Little Dashie too. It was so bittersweet.
Keep up the good work bro(ny)!
